چکیده

Plasma taken from hepatic failure dogs induced by hepatic ischemia was used to observe the variation in its chromatogram obtained by conducting a high performance gel-chromatography (TSK G2000SW used). The progress of hepatic failure caused a distinct increase in the middle molecular (MM) fractions (m. w. over 500), which showed a good correlation with the condition of progressing hepatic failure. The reduction of the above number of peaks was observed when the hemoperfusion was performed using the polyetherurethane sheet embedded with powdered charocal (UPC) that had been newly developed mainly for the purpose of absorbing protein-bound substances. The UPC developed by the authors can successfully remove middle molecular substances in hepatic failure. 633

Basic study of polyetherurethane coated bead-type activated charcoal for direct hemoperfusion.

A new type of activated charcoal for the direct hemoperfusion (DHP) has been developed for use in treatment of fulminant hepatic failure. Bead-type activated charcoal from petroleum pitch (BAC) was coated with polyetherurethane. The coating has permitted the charcoal to minimize the number of released microparticles and yet to show nearly the same adsorption performance as that of the non-coate...

Problems in treating experimentally induced acute hepatic failure by hemoperfusion or cross circulation.

Acute hepatic failure was induced in rats by galactosamine injection intraperitoneally (1 gm per kg). Twenty-four hours later rats were treated by hemoperfusion (HP) over encapsulated sorbents: cellulose acetate-coated charcoal, polyelectrolyte-coated XAD4, a combination of both, or cross circulation with a healthy donor. Compared with control treatment (prevention of hypoglycemia by glucose in...

Effects of haemoperfusion through charcoal or XAD-2 resin on an animal model of fulminant liver failure.

In a group of dogs in whom fulminant liver failure had been induced, perfusion of blood through activated charcoal resulted in a significantly longer survival than that of a similar group of dogs whose blood was not so treated. An otherwise progressive rise in blood ammonia concentration was halted in the treatment group. In another group of dogs with fulminant liver failure perfusion of blood ...

Regional pharmacokinetics of doxorubicin following hepatic arterial and portal venous administration: evaluation with hepatic venous isolation and charcoal hemoperfusion.

We evaluated the regional pharmacokinetics of doxorubicin after hepatic arterial infusion (HAI) and portal venous infusion (PVI) using a novel system for hepatic venous isolation and charcoal hemoperfusion (HVI-CHP). The HVI-CHP system was used to determine directly the doxorubicin plasma concentration in the hepatic vein and the hepatic venous flow rate, and simultaneously, to eliminate hepati...

Coating membranes for a sorbent-based artificial liver: adsorption characteristics.

Techniques are described for the coating of sorbents to be used in an artificial liver support system based on mixed sorbent bed hemoperfusion. Activated charcoal has been coated with cellulose acetate (CA) by solvent evaporation. With Amberlite XAD-4, the Wurster technique was used for coating with CA. XAD-4 has also been coated with a synthetic polyelectrolyte with anticoagulant activity by a...
